The Calais 'Jungle' refugee camp

Thousands of migrants fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and Asia converged on Calais in 2016, hoping to find a way of getting across the Channel to Britain.

This project uses satellite imagery from Digital Globe to illustrate how empty sand dunes transformed into a sprawling refugee camp the size of a small town in less than a year.
